Official Documents

If millage, or general fund budget equivalent to 1.5 mills or more, cost share
at 75% to 100% of the total cost incurred by the county in purchasing, storing
and handling.

If millage, or general fund budget equivalent to less than 1.5 mills, cost share
at 50% to 75% of the total cost incurred by the county in purchasing, storing
and handling.

Responsibilites:

State

State Legislature
- Review and advise the Department of Agriculture on all changes to the noxious weed act.
Department of Agriculture
- Determine, through regulation, which plant species will be declared noxious, in cooperation with the Noxious Weed Advisory committee
- Required to adopt official methods of control, which includes which herbicides are on the cost share list.
- Meet and consult with County Weed Directors and individuals to explain the extent of any weed infestations on their lands and the best methods of control.
- Create, adapt and repeal rules and regulations as necessary to enforce the Noxious Weed Law.
- Approve the employment of the Count Weed Directors based upon performance.
Other
- State agencies supervising lands or highways will pay costs of controlling noxious weeds on those lands.

State Noxious Weed Advisory Committee

Report to the secretary on the expenditure of state funds on noxious weed control
Review the noxious weed act and the list of species declared to be noxious weeds by rules and regulations and recommend changes to the secretary
Review the official eradication and control methods for each state noxious weed and recommend changes to the secretary
Review the state weed management plan and recommend changes and updates to the secretary for approval
Through the use of a risk assessment designated by the secretary, recommend the designation and classification of state noxious weeds

- Will consult and co-operate with the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
- Make an annual survey to determine the approximate amount of land and highways are infested with each kind of weed.
- Submit an annual weed eradication progress report to the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
- Provide assistance and direction for the most effective control and eradication.
- Investigate or aid in investigation and prosecution of violations.
- Report violations to the County Attorney.
