Requirements for Commercial Pesticide Applicators

Recertification training is counted in credit hours where 50 to 60 minutes of training equals one recertification credit hour.

Training may be attended at any time during the current certification period. All credit hours earned during your current certification period will add up until your expiration date.

Credit hours must be earned by December 31 of the year of expiration. It is the commercial applicator's responsibility to earn the required credit hours. If the certification is not renewed with KDA by January 30, renewal by examination will be required.

Any extra credit hours earned during your certification period do not carryover into a new certification period. Each new certification period will reset all credit hours to zero.

The schedule of currently-approved recertification training programs is available at the following link: https://portal.kda.ks.gov/PAF/PafTraining/TrainingEventList. This list is continually updated as recertification training programs are reviewed and approved.

Recertification Credit Hours

Requirements for Program Sponsors

In order for KDA to award recertification training credits, a recertification training program (program) must have significant intellectual or practical content, primarily related to the practice of pest management, and have content geared towards specific categories or subcategories of pesticide application.

Sales seminars, business aspects of application, marketing, production techniques, or comparison of varieties not related to resistance or pest management will not be considered for credit. Programs cannot be used to market any product or service.

Any program sponsor (sponsor) who is seeking recertification training credit for a program must submit the required documents to the Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) a minimum of 30 days prior to the program’s start date. Credit hours will be approved or denied within 15 business days of receiving a complete application. KDA will not backdate approval for past programs.

Required Submission Documents

  • Detailed agenda with an outline, abstract, or description, and the length (in minutes) of each presentation for which credit is sought.

  • Document identifying each speaker and his or her qualifications.

  • Detailed description of how attendance will be monitored.

Please contact KDA prior to the application submission if requesting a Core Hour credit. KDA may request schedule adjustments or alternate times to present the Core Hour to ensure staffing availability.

If the program has been approved, the sponsor shall return the completed attendance verification sheets to KDA within 10 business days of the conclusion of the event, even if there are zero attendees.

KDA may request to monitor an approved program for auditing purposes. If selected, registration / access to the program must be provided at no cost to KDA.

Application for Approval of Recertification Training Program

KDA does not currently approve on-demand training or correspondence training courses. KDA will consider live in-person training, live virtual training, or live hybrid training programs for recertification training credit.
