Do not engage in pesticide business activity until a license has been issued.

A "pesticide" is any substance or mixture of substances used to prevent, destroy, control, repel, attract or mitigate any pest; or any substance or mixture of substances intended to be used as a plant regulator, defoliant or desiccant. This includes herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides, etc.

The Kansas Pesticide Law requires any business to become licensed to advertise, offer for sale, sell or perform any service for the control of a pest on the property of another or apply a pesticide to the property of another within this state; or to perform any service for the control of a pest or apply any pesticide on or at the premises of another person under any commission, division of receipts or subcontracting arrangement with a licensed pesticide business.

To apply for a pesticide business license, complete the Pesticide Business License Application. Be sure to list all employees who will apply pesticides for the business. 

Provide proof of financial responsibility. Due to statutory changes in the 2024 legislative session, as of January 1, 2025, the accepts forms of proof of financial responsibility include:

Calculate the fee(s) owed for the application:

  • $140.00 for each business license category
  • $15.00 for each uncertified applicator
  • $40.00 for each registered technician

Mail or email the completed application, proof of financial responsibility, any supplemental application(s), and the correct fee(s) to the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Pesticide and Fertilizer Program, 1320 Research Park Dr, Manhattan, KS 66502 or to KDA.PestFert@ks.gov

Statement of Service is required of all Pesticide Business License holders.
