Nathan Brown, Emergency Management Coordinator
Nathan Brown is a native Kansan, a life-long public service leader, and an avid advocate for emergency management professionals and first responders. Nathan leads the emergency management initiatives at the Kansas Department of Agriculture. He works closely with local, state, and federal partners to leverage emergency preparedness, training, and exercise resources for Kansas agriculture and its stakeholders. Nathan’s favorite part of his job is the opportunity to conduct training in all regions of the state. This has allowed him to meet and create positive working relationships with hundreds of first responders and public officials at all levels of government. Prior to his current role at KDA, Nathan served as a sworn law enforcement officer in Virginia and as the exercise officer for the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, and he is a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
Nathan is a Certified Public Manager and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Kansas. While at KU, he focused on the topics of policy analysis, change management, and performance auditing, all of which serve him well in his chosen profession. In over 20 years in public service management, emergency management, and administration, his expertise includes risk assessment, continuity of operations, and disaster preparedness and response. Nathan represents KDA on multiple state and federal committees and initiatives including serving as the vice chair of the Kansas Hazard Mitigation Team and as a member of the Commission on Emergency Planning and Response.
Nathan's service leadership approach to guiding his team and working with state and federal partners has resulted in additional funding for Kansas agriculture initiatives. He seeks out continuous learning opportunities and partnerships with emergency managers in other states and local communities. His ambition is to build a strong network of leaders to protect and strengthen the emergency management infrastructure for Kansas and beyond.
