The History and Future of Floodplain Maps
This one-hour virtual class is for floodplain managers interested in learning the background and future of floodplain mapping. Kansas now has statewide base level engineering (BLE), an efficient modeling and mapping approach to show credible flood hazard, which will assist communities in the future, particularly those without a FEMA flood insurance rate map (FIRM), that may be able to use the BLE as best available data. The course will briefly cover the history and background of mapping and the NFIP, then move into the methodology and technical applications and uses the BLE data.

Substantial Damage Estimation Overview
This class is for officials responsible for conducting or delegating substantial damage assessments after flooding or any other damage to structure in the floodplain. This class will give an introduction and overview of FEMA's Substantial Damage Estimator software and how it can be used to produce consistent, organized, and defensible damage assessments.

2D Modeling Applications Training
The Kansas Department of Agriculture hosted a free workshop on HEC-RAS 2D modeling applications provided by WSP. This workshop utilized HEC-RAS 6.3.1 and ArcGIS Pro and goal of this workshop was to educate participants on the preparation of input data needed for HEC-RAS 2D modeling using ArcGIS Pro, setting up and running a HEC-RAS 2D rain-on-mesh model, and how to derive and use the modeling results. This class was approved for 12 Continuing Education Credits (CEC) toward the Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) credential.
Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA) Workshop
The goal of the Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA) Workshop is to educate participants on the software and information needed to perform a BCA on potential mitigation projects using FEMA's current BCA software (version 6.0). This course will assist participants in developing quality BCAs to use when developing grant applications for the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs. Floodplain Design, Construction, and Impacts on Flood Insurance
This course provides insight into the importance of proper foundation flood vents and dry floodproofing techniques for buildings located in a flood zone. It will identify FEMA Technical Bulletins 1, 2, and 3, the National Flood Insurance Program, ASCE 24-14, ICC, and Building Code regulations and standards as they relate to sustaining foundations and overall business continuity in flood hazard areas. The course will also analyze the role of building compliance in securing lowering flood insurance rates and what mitigation solutions are available for both residential and non-residential structures. The format will be an online webinar using the Zoom software platform. ArcGIS Pro For Floodplain Management
Part 1
Part 1 of the ArcGIS Pro for Floodplain Management class focuses on accessing floodplain data and how to manipulate and symbolize floodplain data using ArcGIS Pro. The data sources explored include the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Flood Map Service Center (MSC) and the GIS services offered by the Kansas Department of Agriculture – Division of Water Resources (KDA-DWR) and the Kansas Data Access and Support Center (DASC). The data explored include floodplain boundaries and LiDAR based ground elevations. Virtual Training held on September 22nd, 2020 from 10:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.
Part 2
Part 2 of the ArcGIS Pro for Floodplain Management class builds on the topics learn in Part 1 by exploring how ArcGIS Pro can be used in floodplain management activities. Activities explored include calculating a Base Flood Elevation (BFE), identifying properties residing in the floodplain, and creating maps to communicate floodplain information including how to make Community Rating System (CRS) maps for credits in this program.
