The Water Structures program helps protect neighboring landowners from construction activities, within a floodplain, by administrating the Obstructions in Stream Act and the Levee Law. This program also assists communities in the mapping and flood insurance protection processes.
NOTICE: As of July 1, 2026, according to the Obstructions and Streams Act, any owner of land located in the inundation zone of a DWR regulated dam who sells, subdivides or otherwise transfers any land within the inundation zone separate from the dam shall file a notice of inundation zone with the register of deeds. If the notice is not filed, the landowner who fails to file the notice shall be responsible for additional inspection costs. The notice of the inundation zone shall contain the following language:
On (date of sale, division, or transfer) this property is located in the inundation zone of a dam or structure located at (legal description of property).
