On May 10, 2023, the Chief Engineer issued an Order of Designation regarding the Four-County Local Enhanced Management Area (LEMA).
On April 7, 2023, the Chief Engineer issued an Order of Decision approving the Four-County LEMA Management Plan submitted by the Western Kansas Groundwater Management District No. 1 (GMD1).
A second LEMA hearing was held on February 2, 2023. Further information can be found in the Notice of Hearing. Any interested parties were welcome to submit oral or written statements into the record of the initial hearing. Written comments that have been submitted are available in the Second Public Hearing Comments and Testimony table below.
A prehearing conference was held virtually on January 18, 2023, prior to the second LEMA hearing. The results of the conference can be found in the Second Prehearing Order.
On December 21, 2022, the Chief Engineer issued a Findings and Order Establishing the Initial Requirements for the Designation of a LEMA. He concluded that the proposed GMD1 Four-County LEMA satisfies the initial requirements necessary to continue the LEMA designation process and ordered that a second public hearing be conducted.
An initial LEMA hearing was held on October 17, 2022 to determine whether the proposed GMD1 Four-County LEMA Management Plan satisfies the initial requirements for approval. Further information can be found in the Notice of Hearing. Any interested parties were welcome to submit oral or written statements into the record of the initial hearing. Written comments that were submitted are available in the Initial Public Hearing Comments and Testimony table below.

On August 4, 2022, the Chief Engineer found the GMD1 Four-County LEMA Management Plan acceptable for consideration.
On July 1, 2022, GMD1 submitted the Management Plan for its proposed Four-County LEMA to the Chief Engineer for consideration. If approved, this LEMA would cover the remaining portions of GMD1 not already covered by the Wichita County LEMA.
