Agricultural Laboratory

The mission of the Kansas Department of Agriculture Agricultural Laboratory is to establish, maintain and improve analytical laboratory services for the Meat and Poultry Inspection, Dairy Inspection, Pesticide and Fertilizer, and Food Safety and Lodging Inspection programs. All samples submitted are subjected to the highest possible standards of accuracy and precision in order to provide credible and defensible analytical results. This is done to protect the health and safety of all Kansans and to facilitate accuracy in labeling of products offered for sale in our state.

Samples submitted to the laboratory come through investigators or inspectors within the Kansas Department of Agriculture. The laboratory does not accept samples directly from the public.

The success of the laboratory is due to the expertise of our highly trained staff and our precision instrumentation. Analysts in each laboratory section successfully participate in relevant national and international proficiency testing programs.

The KDA Laboratory performs a wide range of diverse testing across several different laboratory sections. These sections are Dairy, Microbiology/Meat, Feed and Fertilizer, Prohibited Materials/BSE, and Pesticide. Click on the links to the left to learn more about the types of samples and testing for each.
